The high-strength, colored titanium nitride coating of one scissor half produces a self-sharpening effect because the surface of the coated scissor half is about twice as hard as that of the uncoated one. As a result, the harder half is significantly more resistant to wear and re-establishes the cutting edge of the other, softer half at each opening / closing (design protected).

The titanium nitride coating was tested for wear and tear on the manicure scissors by the VPA Test and Test Institute Remscheid (Test Report No. 170449/13067):
„The cutting performance tests were carried out with a device according to Research Report No. 2272 of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The wear of the same scissors without coating ends with approximately 50,000 cuts with the complete wear. By contrast, the StahlKrone scissors still cut perfectly even after 103,000 cuts! “
